- complimentary putting contest (win more tickets for raffles)

20th anniversary tourney results

The 20th anniversary Sports & Scholarships “Circle of friends” Golf Tournament was celebrated with another sold-out field under hot, humid and muggy conditions, on Thursday July 08, 2010 at the Pike Lake Golf Resort.

The event which attracts foursomes from the Mildmay area as well as Kitchener-Waterloo and points beyond, is a “Texas Scramble” team competition. A large number of the golfers have competed for ten or more years and the event is a popular one on the summer golf tournament circuit. The event originated in 1990 and has always been hosted at Pike Lake.

CHAMPIONS BY FLIGHT

Open - the Waterloo foursome of Frank & Stan Anagnostopoulos, Peter Black and Tom Papadopolous were steady through intermittent rain-showers with a credible showing of 61 (-11). The two-time defending champs had a slim one-stroke cushion over the first-time entered Kitchener foursome of Gary Draves, Dave Gregory, Gerry Patterson and Tom Swartz at 62 (-10) .

Five other teams carded 63s (-9) including a threesome - Rick Campbell (Mississauga), Steve Currie (Waterloo) and Matthew Wolf (Waterloo); as well as the Peter & Wendy Cober family foursome with sons Brock and Todd of Kitchener; Waterloo Region’s John MacTavish, D’Arcy McKinley, Glenn McLelland and Frank Sullivan; the Kitchener Rivershark Twins fastball team alumni Craig Crawford, and Jim Granger (both of Guelph), Larry Lynch (Kitchener) and Brian Stere (Tavistock); and the Walkerton “Longest Day of Golf” quartet of John Becker, Jim McIntyre, Roy Mullen and Joe Rys.

Mixed (two male/two female) - Bill & Jacquie Ballagh (Kitchener) and George & Marianne Dziarski (Waterloo) scored 67 (-5) and defended their 2009 title with a one-shot victory over the Guelph family of Patti, Paul, Chris and Jen McCormick at 68 (-4).

Ladies - the Walkerton area foursome of Lisa Fortney, Michelle Fortney, Shawna Reinhart and Rene Sachs defended their 2009 championship, improving by two strokes, carding a 71 (-1). This is a new Ladies Flight tournament record. Back two strokes and placing second were Elaine Lang (Chepstow), Shelly Pollock (Ripley), Gladys Stewart and Sherry Weiler, both of Mildmay at 73 (+1).

Family (all foursome golfers related) - the Cober Family’s 63 (-9) was sufficient for a slim margin over the Kitchener foursome of Mike Fuendling, John & Stewart Mills and Dan Weaver at 64 (-8). The Grubb brothers – Jerome, Murray, Philip and Richard were two strokes back at 66 (-6).

The “Cusp” Award (middle of the pack score) at 67 (-5) was the Ballagh/Dziarski pairing.

The Mac Lindsay Memorial “Anchor” Award established a new standard as Cathy MacTavish (Waterloo), Ellen Schmalz and Pat Simpson (both of Mildmay) notched a 91 (+19).
